At the moment there is a reform that seeks to convert CFE Telecommunications and Internet for All in a public company, something that can be positive for many users, but in reality it is a danger that puts the balance of this market in Mexico at risk.
According to Rocío Villanueva Cordero, president of the Mexican Association of Mobile Operators, If CFE Telecom becomes a public company, this would put other competitors at riskwhich cannot match the low internet and telecommunications prices that the CFE currently offers. This is what he said about it:
“Problems are arising and we are working because it is a very thin line that marks that balance. If CFE Telecommunications and Internet for All is not controlled, it could affect and break the market that we are having because today it is undoubtedly a service that we sell and it gives away.”
Thanks to the fact that CFE Telecom does not pay for the Altán network due to the agreement it has with the company, many have pointed out that a reform to convert it into a public company would be anti-competitivesince the rest of the operators need to invest in infrastructure leasing, the necessary human capital, technological equipment, and other aspects of the CFE they do not have to worry about.
For a long time, CFE Telecom has offered much lower services, and has even given away internet, something that other companies cannot do if they want to remain in the competitive range. We can only wait to see what will happen with this case in Mexico. On related topics, the CFE sells its internet at less than $100 pesos.
