In an interview with “CBS News”, the Democratic candidate said that the US has been pressuring Israel for a ceasefire
United States Vice President Kamala Harris (Democratic Party) avoided answering a question about the US alliance with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu (Likud, right).
“I believe, with all due respect, that a better question would be whether we have an important alliance between the American people and the Israeli people. And the answer to that is yes”responded Kamala in an interview with the program 60 minutesfrom the broadcaster CBS Newsbroadcast on Sunday (6.Oct.2024).
The Democratic candidate for the White House was asked about the military aid given by the US to the Israeli government since the start of the war against Hamas, on October 7, 2023. “The aid allowed them [israelenses] defend themselves against 200 ballistic missiles. […] We have to do what we can to allow Israel to defend itself against this type of attack.”said Kamala.
The US government, led by Joe Biden, does not repudiate Israel’s actions in the Gaza Strip and Lebanon. Kamala follows the same line. The vice president has already defended the creation of a State of Palestine, but considered that Israel has the right “unshakable” to defend yourself.
The White House seeks agreements for a ceasefire in the region and avoids condemning the Israeli government. “The work we did resulted in a series of movements in that region by Israel”said Kamala about American efforts to end the conflict in the Middle East.
