Although it is no longer a hurricane, ex-Hurricane Kirk could still cause damage in Germany. New calculations show the center of the storm will shift.
Frankfurt – Autumn has arrived and brings turbulent weather with it. Storm Kirk will hit Germany on Thursday (October 10th), with experts warning of damage and flooding. For a long time it was unclear which route Kirk would take, but it is now clear: the center of the storm will be primarily in southern Germany.
Weather experts warn of possible damage from fallen trees
Fabian Ruhnau from Weather channel Kachelmannwetter warns of possible damage: “Because of the leafy trees, this would be a significant storm situation, which could also cause damage, especially falling trees.”
According to the latest findings, the storm’s path has shifted, explains a qualified meteorologist Dominik Jung from Wetter.net. Current weather models show that the center of the storm will be first in the southwest and then in southern Germany and partly in eastern Germany. According to the forecast, the storm will hit Germany as a hurricane.
Storm Kirk brings heavy rain: flooding possible
A lot of rain is expected, especially west of the Rhine. “In some cases we have to expect a little more than 100 liters of rain per square meter, and that of course also means there is a risk of flooding,” says Dominik Jung. This forecast is based on data from the German weather model ICON and the GFS model.
Storm Kirk hits Germany with “hurricane force”
On Thursday evening (October 10th) there will be squalls and at higher altitudes even hurricane gusts, with the Black Forest in focus. On the Feldberg the storm could reach speeds of up to 160 km/h. “Full hurricane force is possible there,” warns Jung. (construction)
