A few weeks after the conclusion of Singapore Grand Prixthe owner of the rights to the same GP which takes place at night on the Marina Bay street circuit has ended up at the center of attention for a case of corruption that involved the country’s former Minister of Transport, Subramaniam Iswaran.
The case
According to the latest investigations, NGO Beng Bengbillionaire Malaysian real estate magnate and owner of Hotel Properties Ltd. (in addition to the aforementioned rights to the Asian GP), was accused of having given away goods worth around 300,000 dollars to the former Minister including private jets for holidays, tickets for musicals and Premier League football matches and the match itself. Following what emerged from the investigations, Iswaran resigned from the government of the city-state last January, and has been serving a prison term since Thursday 3 October. 12 month sentence.
Doubts about the GP?
At present, second Channel News AsiaOng has not yet responded to the accusations and the hearing could be postponed to November 15, the day on which the preliminary trial will be held. Furthermore, it is not clear what the future of the Singapore Grand Prix could be, which should still remain regular scheduled until 2028 barring any twists and turns.
