The draw for the group stage of the African Confederation Cup, which was held today, Monday, at the headquarters of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) in Egypt, pitted the Egyptian team Zamalek, the defending champion last season, against its local Egyptian rival, Port Said. The two Egyptian teams will meet twice, back and forth, in the fourth group, which also includes the Nigerian teams Enyimba and the Mozambican Black Bulls. The first group will also witness an Arab confrontation between Tunisian CS Sfaxien and Algeria’s CS Constantine, and also includes the Tanzanian teams Simba and Angola’s Onzi Bravosh.
The second group includes the Moroccan team, RS Berkane, champion of the competition in 2020 and 2022, along with Stade Mali, South Africa’s Stellenbosch, and Angola’s CD Luanda Sul, while USM Algiers, champion of the 2023 edition, will play in the third group, which includes Ivorian ASEC Mimosas, Senegal’s Jaraf, and Botswana’s Oraba United.
The competitions for this round will be held in a league system, where each team will play six matches, three at home and three away from home, and the first and second from each group will qualify for the quarter-finals, which will be held in a home-and-away elimination system until the final match.
