After the bad accident last June in the first stage of the Women’s Motorcycling World Championship, Mia Rusthen’s recovery is proceeding slowly but with positive news. The driver, who was immediately helped on the track, had suffered a brain polytrauma, returning to a facility in Norway a week after a week in hospital in Cesana.
Week after week, Mia continued to take small steps, until the good news was given in mid-September, in which she confirmed that she had been discharged from the Norwegian hospital where she had started rehabilitation and was able to walk again.
Now the young rider has provided a further update on her condition, with her recovery progressing in the right direction on a physical level, although some time and other small steps are still needed to fully recover.
In fact, Mia confirmed that, although the right side of her brain is still affected by the injury after the accident, her intention is to continue training and working to get back into top shape. On the other hand, however, the rider also confirmed the fact that she still struggles to remember her motorbike adventure in the World Championship, having only flashes of memory about it.

“I walk alone, I think, I remember more and more, I talk, I laugh, I cry, I eat, I play, I fight – I’m alive! It is the right side that is affected by the brain injury, but it is recovering little by little and I intend to continue training and working until it is back to its full potential,” Rusthen explained through a post on Instagram, with which she maintains updated on her recovery journey.
“I still don’t realize that I participated in the World Championship and I remember very little about that adventure. But my heart and my body remember the happy encounters with people, especially with the girls I competed with.”
The good news is that Mia will be able to return to the track: clearly the time has not yet come to get on a motorbike, but the doctors have allowed him to travel to Spain for the last round of the women’s world championship to be held in Jerez, where he will be able to meet all the girls he ran with and watch the two races live.
“I am extremely happy to announce that I have received clearance from the doctors to attend this year’s WorldWCR final at the Circuito de Jerez in Spain to say goodbye to all the girls and watch the final two races. My loved ones and my team are with me the whole time and I am deeply grateful to be able to do this.”
