A recent post published by is causing quite a stir Stevy Chassard, director specializing in monetization at Ubisoftwho expressed his opinion frustration in seeing people who wish the company to failthrough a message published on LinkedIn which was then removed by the author himself, also because it seems to have raised considerable controversy.
“The video game industry is in trouble right now, we all know that. But seeing how the players they react on social media, wishing an unfortunate fate for companies and people is sad. (And not just towards Ubisoft),” Chassard wrote.
“Although it is always a vocal minority expressing themselves on social media, I felt hurt, offended and ashamed to be part of this community,” the original message read.
Ubisoft’s difficult period
Furthermore, Chassard doesn’t just talk about players, but apparently also reports on developers or professionals who have such attitudes, in some cases: “What is even more revolting is arriving on LinkedIn and seeing the same comments from people in the industry,” he wrote.
“In addition to exposing yourself as a clearly not decent human beingyou are impacting thousands of employees who are already affected by all the hate despite doing their best to deliver incredible experiences.”
The director’s message has particularly harsh tones but can be shared, considering the frustration that can emerge in the employees of a company that is attacked indiscriminately as often happens to Ubisoft recently.
However, the post generated notable controversieswhich probably also led to its cancellation. Many players took it as a direct attack on the “category” in general (a rather forced interpretation), while many others focused above all on the fact that this message comes from a director specialized in “monetization”, which for many represents a bit of an embodiment of what’s wrong with today’s gaming industry.
Ubisoft has been going through a particularly difficult period recently, with some big productions such as Star Wars Outlaws not reaching their goals and the postponement of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, so much so that the idea of a possible acquisition of the company by Tencent, or privatization in the hands of the Guillemot family.
