McLaren’s supercar range expands with the latest addition, the W1. We are talking about a very exclusive sports car: the Woking car manufacturer has already announced that only 399 units will be produced for customers, and moreover they have all already been assigned to customers. The price? Around £2 milliontaxes included, in the United Kingdom, although for the record it should be noted that the final cost depends on the level of MSO customization.
Hybrid propulsion
The heart of the new McLaren W1 is represented by a brand new 1,275 HP V8 hybrid engine, for what is effectively the highest power ever for any McLaren and higher than that of all its main competitors: combines an MHP-8 V8 combustion engine that develops 928 HP, equal to 233 HP per liter (the highest power ever achieved by a McLaren engine), and reaches 9,200 rpm, with a high power density E module from 347 HP, which integrates the electric motor and the control unit to reduce weight and optimize packaging.
The new McLaren W1
Thanks to these specifications, and also thanks to a vehicle weight of 1,399 kg, the new McLaren W1 has the merit of boasting a power/weight ratio of 911 HP/tonne, to date the highest ever achieved by a supercar of the British brand. Which also translates into high level performance: we are talking about acceleration from 0 to 200 km/h in 5.8 seconds and from 0 to 300 km/h in less than 12.7 secondsand a top speed electronically limited to 350 km/h.
Level performance
On the other hand, we are faced with the fastest and most agile McLaren approved for road use ever: for comparisonthe new W1 is able to reach a speed higher than that of a Speedtail at 300 km/h in a straight line, but also to precede a Senna by 3 seconds per lap on the brand’s reference circuit in Woking.
Sportsmanship at the forefront
There are many elements that make this supercar a true sports car: the ground effect aerodynamics inspired by Formula 1 and the McLaren Race mode allow, among other things, the lowering of the ride height by 37 mm at the front and by 17 mm at the rear and generating up to 1,000 kg of downforce; at the rear we find the special wing McLaren Active Long Tail which extends 300mm; rear-wheel drive, with 1,275 HP and 1,340 Nm, is made possible by the extraordinary know-how of Formula 1; suspensions McLaren Race Active Chassis Control III with Race mode, McLaren high-performance hydraulic steering and hydraulic braking and the new 8-speed gearbox with E reverse, combined with the new hydraulic electronic differential, complete the overview.
Customizable interiors
A look also inside the passenger compartment, where sportiness is the watchword (even in this case, one might say). In particular, the seats boast a unique design integrated into the Aerocell monocoquethe pedals, the steering wheel and the main controls can be adjusted as desired. And that’s not all: a host of virtually limitless bespoke options are available through MSO, including the new McLaren InnoKnit bespoke interior material. The Woking car manufacturer has also released the first information relating to the warranty: 4 years for the vehicle and 6 years for the HV battery, combined with a 4-year service plan.
