At least three were killed and 17 others injured in a huge explosion near Jinnah International Airport in Karachi, eastern Pakistan, according to local news reports.
Sources told the Pakistani Geo News Network that the sound of the explosion was heard in different areas of the city, with television footage showing huge clouds of smoke and burning fires from the site of the accident.
All the injured were taken to hospital to receive emergency treatment. The region’s Interior Minister, Zia Al-Hassan Al-Najjar, suspects that the explosion was caused by an improvised explosive device.
Law enforcement agencies and firefighters arrived at the scene. Al-Najjar spoke to Geo News Network, saying that the investigation into the explosion has begun, adding that surveillance camera recordings are being collected. He said: “Reports indicate that it was the explosion of an improvised explosive device.”
