The former president of the Chamber told Poder360 that the party “outsourced” the dispute in the big cities and “it was a fiasco” where it competed
Former President of the Chamber of Deputies Eduardo Cunha (Republicans) said on Sunday (6.Oct.2024) that the PT had a “resounding defeat” in the 2024 elections.
To the Power360Cunha assessed that the president’s party Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) “outsourced” the dispute in large cities, such as São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, and “it was a fiasco” where it competed directly, such as Belo Horizonte.
In the 1st round of the 2024 municipal elections, the PSD was the party that won the most capital: 3. It is followed by the MDB, PL and União Brasil, with two city halls each. The PSB and the Republicans each managed to command one. The PT will have 4 candidates in the dispute in the 2nd round, while the PL will have 9.
Cunha also stated that the result could be a harbinger “very bad” for the 2026 elections, although in 2020 the PT’s performance was not good, but Lula managed to reach Planalto in 2022.
