Seattle.- Daniel Jones threw for 257 yards and a touchdown, Bryce Ford-Wheaton returned a blocked field goal attempt 60 yards for a touchdown with 55 seconds left, and the depleted New York Giants stunned the Seattle Seahawks today, 29-20. .
Playing without two of its best offensive players, New York (2-3) put together a master plan that built a 23-13 lead over the course of the fourth quarter. The Giants then came out big with a huge special teams play with Seattle on the verge of forcing a potential overtime.
Seattle’s Jason Myers set up for a 47-yard field goal attempt with 1:05 left that could have tied the game at 23. New York’s Isaiah Simmons neatly jumped over the gap between the guard and the long center on the offensive line and blocked the kick that bounced into Ford-Wheaton’s arms to secure the score that sent the home fans for the exits.
Jones directed all the production in one of the best games of his career. Despite playing without rookie receiver Malik Nabers and running back Devin Singletary, the Giants created a game plan for short passes and cutting runs that allowed New York to control possession and keep Seattle’s offense on the sidelines.
Jones completed 23 of 34 passes and threw touchdowns of 7 yards to Wan’Dale Robinson and a 30-yarder to Darius Slayton early in the third quarter to give the Giants a 17-10 lead that they did not let slip.
Rookie fifth-round running back Tyrone Tracy rushed for 129 yards filling the void in Singletary’s absence, while Slayton had eight receptions for a total of 122 yards with Nabbers out.
