Israel’s military spokesman, Daniel Hagari, assured this Saturday (5) that the Israeli armed forces killed 440 members of the Shiite terrorist group Hezbollah during their raids in southern Lebanon, which began in the early hours of last Tuesday (1). .
“We are pushing Hezbollah north. Some terrorists have fled and others are being defeated by our troops in close quarters combat,” Hagari said in a video appearance.
According to the military spokesman, the dead included 30 commanders of terrorist militias, all of whom were eliminated in a combination of air strikes and combat on the ground.
During troop movements in southern Lebanon, soldiers from Israel’s 98th Division destroyed a 250-meter tunnel that was about 300 meters from the border between Lebanon and Israel.
“Underground infrastructure was identified and investigated during cross-border operations carried out in recent weeks,” Hagari added, without specifying when these operations took place.
In the aforementioned underground space, the Israeli military found “control centers, combat equipment and a large number of weapons that Hezbollah’s Radwan forces – an elite corps – would use in an invasion of Israel.”
In addition, the military found showers, a kitchen and food reserves in the tunnel.
More than ten days ago, Israel launched an intense bombing campaign against Lebanon, especially in the south, in the Bekaa Valley – east – and in Beirut – in the southern suburbs, known as Dahye -, but also in the center of the capital in two occasions.
Furthermore, last Tuesday it began ground operations against the neighboring country, in which nine soldiers have died so far.
