According to Andrei Rodrigues, general director of the PF, this year’s volume is greater than that confiscated in the 2022 and 2020 elections
The general director of PF (Federal Police), Andrei Rodrigues, said this Sunday (6.Oct.2024) that, since the start of the 2024 elections, R$21 million in cash had been seized, in addition to R$40 million in goods.
The statement was given to journalists during a visit to the CICCN (Integrated Center for National Command and Control), in Brasília.
According to Andrei, this year’s volume is greater than that confiscated in the 2020 and 2022 elections. “In the last elections, the PF seized around R$5 million and in the 2020 elections around R$1.5 million. This demonstrates firm action by the Electoral Judiciary Police”he said.
The seized money is allegedly used to commit electoral corruption through vote buying and exit polling. However, the general director of the PF stated that the elections are being held normally, without serious incidents.
Arrests for electoral crimes
The Ministry of Justice and Public Security has already arrested 108 voters and 14 candidates as of 3:38 pm this Sunday (Oct 6). According to the TSE (Superior Electoral Court), 274 general incidents were registered until 1 pm.
The ministry recorded 42 arrests in the act. According to the Electoral Code, from October 1st, 5 days before the election, and up to 48 hours after the end of voting, voters can only be arrested or detained in flagrante delicto or as a result of a criminal conviction for a non-bailable crime or for disrespecting safe conduct.
