Polling stations closed their doors in the presidential elections that took place in Tunisia on Sunday, and vote counting began.
Tunisians choose between three candidates led by outgoing President Kais Saied, who is most likely to win a second presidential term.
Registered voters, numbering 9.7 million, began casting their votes at eight in the morning (7:00 GMT) in more than five thousand centers to choose their president for the next five years, and voting operations continued until six in the evening local time, according to the Election Commission.
Farouk Bouaskar, head of the Election Commission, stated in a press conference that “no incident that could be influential has been recorded.”
Muhammad Al-Talili Al-Mansri, the authority’s official spokesman, noted that the turnout rate is “actually higher” than it was in the second round of the legislative elections at the beginning of 2023.
