The Public Ministry of the State of Rio de Janeiro (MPRJ) reported having served this Sunday morning, 6th, a search and seizure warrant against the president of the 137th Electoral Section of the 5th Electoral Zone, located on Rua Miguel Lemos, in Copacabana, zone south of the capital of Rio de Janeiro.
According to the MPRJ, the president of the section illegally retained the Voters’ Voting Book, among other materials that would be used in this Sunday’s municipal elections. The agents went to the woman’s home, on Avenida Henrique Valadares, in the center of Rio, after she failed to show up at the voting station.
“In addition to seizing the Voting Book, the agents also found narcotic substances at the scene. Among the materials seized were four polling station badges: one for the president, one for the secretary and two for poll workers; a Voting Book; a Non-Voting Attendance Declaration Block; a Stamp of Non-Attendance from the Electoral Court; an Electoral Justice Request Block; a Receiving Board Minutes; various stationery materials; a Poll Attendance List; two Electoral Court Letterhead Envelopes for packaging result media; a bag with the Electoral Justice Coat of Arms; and a wrapper containing dry herb (marijuana)”, informed the MPRJ.
The warrant, issued by the Court of the 5th Electoral Zone, was carried out through the MPRJ Security and Intelligence Coordination (CSI/MPRJ), in support of the 5th Electoral Prosecutor’s Office. The incident caused a delay of around two hours in voting in the section, but the Electoral Zone generated a new register, allowing the election to be regularized.
“The president of the section and the seized material were sent to the Federal Police Station, in Praça Mauá”, says the MPRJ note. “According to the Electoral Prosecutor’s Office, she will be held accountable for article 340 of the Electoral Code, the penalty for which is up to three years in prison and a fine.”
