For those who have forgotten it for a considerable period of months, last May it was launched neither more nor less than Stellar Bladea game that achieved its respective success to a certain extent, although clearly something more significant was expected as it was an exclusive from PS5. And now after being off the radar for a few days, new news has emerged that is not in their favor, since they would be suing their developers for a rather atypical coincidence within the business.
A legal dispute has arisen between the film production company Stellarblade LLC and the video game developer Shift Up along with sonydue to the similarity of names between their brands. The Louisiana-based company has been operating under that name since 2010, and has now sued the creators of the video game, alleging trademark infringement and damage to its business.
The production company, whose owner Griffith Chambers Mehaffey also owns the domain stellarblade.com Since 2006, he says he has used the name for his multimedia production work for almost 15 years. However, following the video game’s name change in 2022, Mehaffey notes that search results are now dominated by that product, making it difficult for his customers to find his business online.
The lawsuit asks that Shift Up and Sony be prohibited from using the name Stellar Blade or any similar variant, in addition to requesting that all related material be handed over for destruction. He is also seeking compensation for damages and legal costs he has faced. The situation puts Mehaffey’s prolonged use of the name and the possibility that Sony and Shift Up were aware of its existence before adopting the title.
No public response has yet been received from sony about these accusations. Meanwhile, the dispute continues, with the production company arguing that the resources of PlayStation and Shift Up have left their business “in the digital darkness”, seriously affecting its online visibility and operation.

Author’s note: It is probably more difficult to find the film producer because of the game, since at its peak it reached many searches due to the controversy of the character. It will be necessary to see if in the end they win the lawsuit against the studio.
