The Sunday race at Motegi was two-sided for the Gresini team and the Marquez family. On the one hand there is joy for Marc’s result, third at the finish line and his eighth podium of the season in a GP, clearly the best result for him in his career since 2019. However, Sunday was decidedly less happy for his brother Alexforced to retire due to an accident in which he was involved at the start of the race with Marc’s former teammate, Joan Mir.
Alex penalized
In reality, the crash was entirely the responsibility of the Ducati riderwho in an attempt to overtake another bike on the inside completely got the timing wrong and very dangerously ran over the #36 Honda. Marquez jr. he fell immediately, while Mir’s bike continued for a few more meters with the Ducati GP23 stuck on its tail. Fortunately there were no physical consequences for the two centaurs, but predictably the stewards investigated the incident.
After the race the verdict came: Alex Marquez was held responsible for the accident and received as a sanction a Long Lap Penalty that he will have to serve at the next GP at Phillip Island. For the Spaniard #73, already the protagonist of a controversial accident in Aragon in which world champion Pecco Bagnaia was also the victim, this is the first infringement confirmed this season.
