Leaks|The district heating pipe leak has been stopped, and there is no longer any acute danger. The rescue service reminds that people should respect insulating tapes.
In Vantaa A district heating pipe leak occurred on Myyrmäentie on Sunday morning, as a result of which the district heating has been cut off from several apartment buildings in the area.
Due to the leak, 80-degree water flowed onto the footpaths and the roadway, but the leak was stopped a little before ten o’clock, says the fire supervisor of the Central Uusimaa rescue service Aleksi Savolainen.
“The leak was reasonably massive, water flooded the road quite a bit,” says Savolainen.
According to Savolainen, the rescue service isolated the area near the leak site, but “numerous people” still walked to the area despite the insulation tapes. Now the insulation has been dismantled. One person was injured.
“Someone managed to burn their toe. People could be reminded that when the rescue service isolates an area, there is a reason for it,” says Savolainen.
I’m leaking from the trail, strong steam drifted onto the nearby train track. The rail traffic control center was informed about the matter, as the steam could have caused a problem with visibility. Savolainen is not aware that the steam would have affected the operation of the trains.
The rescue service was alerted about the matter at around 8:25 a.m., and the task was over for the rescue service in about half an hour.
Vantaa energia continues the investigation and repair work at the leak site.
