Electric|Olkiluoto 2 has been out of use for almost a month.
Olkiluoton the electricity production of the nuclear power plant’s second unit is expected to restart on Sunday. This was explained by Teollisuuden Voima’s (TVO) communications manager Johanna Aho for STT on Saturday. Olkiluoto 2 has been out of use for almost a month due to a generator rotor failure.
Olkiluoto 2’s electricity production is to initially be at a lower power level of 725 megawatts, while its maximum power is 890 megawatts. According to Aho, this is to reduce the risk that the second rotor replaced by a failed one would also fail.
Aho also said that the investigation into the cause of the failure of the decommissioned rotor is still ongoing.
Fortum on the other hand told on Saturday that the annual maintenance of unit one of the Loviisa nuclear power plant will be extended.
The reason for the stretching is a technical defect in one of the control rods found during the tests performed in connection with the start-up of the plant. The annual maintenance will continue until the cause is found and the fault is repaired, approximately for another week. According to the original plan, the annual maintenance was supposed to end at the end of September.
