Russian Foreign Ministry: hearings in court in The Hague on rights in the Kerch Strait were successful
Hearings at the International Court of Arbitration in The Hague on rights in the Kerch Strait, as well as the Azov and Black Seas, were successful for Russia. This was stated by Ambassador at Large of the Russian Foreign Ministry Gennady Kuzmin, his words are quoted by RIA Novosti.
“I think the hearings were successful for us. Without any doubt, a substantive position was presented, reasoned, based on legal and factual arguments. I think the judges have something to think about,” Kuzmin assessed.
He emphasized that witnesses and experts were present at the meeting and gave their testimony.
In 2016, Ukraine initiated arbitration proceedings against Moscow in accordance with the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea to protect its rights in the maritime zones adjacent to Crimea. On September 23, the International Court of Justice began holding hearings as part of the proceedings.
