A conflict over selling crystal methamphetamine in another’s territory was what allegedly caused Martín Daniel ML to attack, in the company of other men, two more and two women in a home in the Las Almeras subdivision, on February 21, 2023.
With gunshots, the armed group ended the lives of Uriel Rodríguez de Santiago and Roberto Marín Castro and left one of the women injured to the point of requiring removal of a part of her skull, and the other with a wound in the thigh from which It still has consequences. The Public Ministry presented the case before a control judge regarding the arrest of ML, to request his connection to the process. It was announced in the initial hearing that on February 21, 2023, at the intersection of Calendario Azteca and Alcatraz streets, the accused (supposedly) along with two more men (one of them nicknamed “El Largo”) entered the place where two men and two women drank alcohol and then shot them with firearms (the specifications of which were not given by social representation). In the house, a man who was not officially identified until now was left dead (because there was no request from his relatives to be able to watch his body), but with the help of witnesses he identified himself as Uriel Rodríguez de Santiago, alias “El Coico.” , who began selling glass where ML did, according to social representation. The analysis of his fingerprints was also useful, which allowed the prosecution to know that he was a man registered with a criminal record for crimes against health. Roberto Marín Castro also died at the scene, and two women were injured who managed to see their attackers and identified ML as one of them, officially after his arrest. To prove ML’s probable participation in the incident, the Northern Zone District Prosecutor’s Office offered a confidential witness, known to one of the attackers, who would have confessed the incident and directly implicated the now accused. However, the man’s private defense tried to distort this evidence by saying that it was a hearsay witness, not a direct one, which the judge did not pay attention to. The private lawyer even went so far as to accuse the Prosecutor’s Office of “blaming an innocent person in order to give results”, in the middle of reading five pages of logical-legal argument to request that his client not be linked to the process. The control judge considered that there was sufficient evidence to prove that the crime of qualified homicide and qualified injuries existed, despite the fact that the Public Ministry had requested attempted qualified homicide. The accused was linked to proceedings for the crimes of qualified homicide, qualified injuries and aggravated kidnapping. Likewise, the adjudicator dictated a two-month deadline for the complementary investigation after the request of four months by the Prosecutor’s Office, which he considered excessive.
They are also investigating a kidnapping case
A few weeks before the double murder resulting from an armed attack against an alleged glass seller in the Las Almeras neighborhood on February 21, 2023, Martín Daniel ML allegedly kidnapped a man in the same place who was abandoned lifeless. and with traces of violence in the Tarahumara colony between January 6 and 7 of that year.
He did not do it alone, according to the investigation by the Prosecutor’s Office prosecuted under criminal case 1492/2023, but with two accomplices, one of them also a participant in the events of February 21. The data of this violent event were released in detail by the Public Ministry of the Northern Zone District Prosecutor’s Office yesterday in continuation of the initial hearing to define the legal situation of this person. During the formal accusation, the Public Ministry read that an investigation for aggravated kidnapping is continuing against ML, under the following hypothesis: that on January 6, 2023 on Calendario Azteca Street between 4:00 and 5:00 p.m. Later, the accused along with the other two men attacked a man whose identity has not been confirmed with a pipe, breaking bones in his skull and face, and then took him somewhere else. After taking him away, they attacked the victim again and then abandoned his body with his skull shattered at the intersection of Temosachi and Yegua streets in the Tarahumara neighborhood, with a cement block full of blood on one side. The cause of death, however, was identified by the forensic services personnel as hypovolemic shock (organ failure) due to a laceration (cut) in the arterial trunk, neck and thorax. A witness to this attack gave his version to the Prosecutor’s Office, which was used as evidence. According to this statement, that day he saw how the men allegedly involved attacked his friend Henry, with whom he was living, but he left for a moment to go to the bathroom. He then saw how they took him away in the Land Rover truck with fake Anapromex plates. He learned, after asking the accused, that they took the victim to a house on Tierra Santa Street in the Terranova subdivision, and then left his body at the designated point. However, for the control judge, the background of the investigation did not show an intention to kill the victim or acts intended to do so, but simply the expert analyzes that determined the violent death after the kidnapping with the purpose of harming him. Due to this fact, the accused was also linked to proceedings, as in the case of February 21, in the second hearing against him, and four months were set for additional investigation to allow the criminal process to continue. Since Sunday, September 29, the control judge had established, for both reasons, justified preventive detention in the Social Reintegration Center number 3 of Ciudad Juárez against ML
