The motorcycle market closes on a positive note in September 2024. Just over a month after the opening of the eighty-first edition of EICMA, the most important international trade fair event in the sector, the Italian market for motorcycles, scooters and mopeds, the data on registrations released by Confindustria ANCMA (National Association of Cycle and Motorcycle Accessories) show a growth in demand of 1.7% compared to the same month last year.
The state of health of the motorcycle market
A result that Mariano Roman, president of the manufacturers and distributors association, judges “positive and encouraging, especially if we consider the comparison with September 2023, which closed with a solid +21%. This trend is further confirmation of the role and relevance of two wheels in a very challenging moment for the mobility industry.” After the slowdown recorded in August, the first autumn month of the year returns to a positive trend. Going into the heart of the data, it is highlighted that overall mopeds, scooters and motorbikes placed 27,576 vehicles on the market, equal to an increase of 1.71%. In detail, in September, scooters recorded the best performance with an increase of 3.79% and 14,772 registered vehicles; On the other hand, the motorcycle market is less exciting which, with 11,127 units registered, stops at -0.73%, while mopeds reach parity (+0.36%), which put 1,677 vehicles on the road.
Positive year, electric ones continue to decline
The first three quarters of 2024 demonstrate, as anticipated, a good state of health in the sector, which recorded an increase of 5.05%, registering 300,343 vehicles. The push to the market comes first and foremost from motorcycles, which grew by 7.17% and registered 131,950 units; followed by scooters with an increase of 4.36% and 153,890 registered vehicles; the only negative segment is that of mopeds, which leave 5.36 percentage points equal to 14,503 units. The trend of the zero emissions market is still opaque. In fact, electric two-wheelers also closed the ninth month of the year in negative territory (-23.25%), registering 789 vehicles. The cumulative annual figure is in line, recording a double-digit loss (-21.99%) equal to 8,098 units
