The waterspout hit Abruzzo this afternoon, and it did not arrive alone, as is easy to imagine. The disruption brought with it rains intense, hail, obviously, a very strong and dangerous wind. The gigantic waterspout was visible from kilometers away, it crossed the sea between the provinces of Pescara and Teramo, precisely in the area between Silvi and Montesilvano.

Despite the size and duration of the waterspout, fortunately, no injuries or material damage were reported. The water column remained stable in the open seawell away from the shore, coastal structures and, above all, homes.
The phenomenon occurred around 2.30pm today, Friday 4 October. It had already begun storm which was crossing the area between the municipalities of Silvi and Montesilvano. After the passage of the waterspout, a water bomb hit the area around 3pm, with particular intensity on Montesilvano, where a hailstorm was also recorded. Thankfully, no significant damage occurred, as the hailstones were moderate in size.
According to the forecastsmeteorological instability will persist in the next few hours, especially along the coast, with rains that will continue to affect the Region. For tomorrow, after a morning that will show some clear weather, a further worsening is expected between the afternoon and the evening, with possible even intense thunderstorms on the coast and in the Abruzzo hinterland. The Civil Protection has issued a yellow weather alert for October 5, signaling a moderate risk of thunderstorms and possible hydrogeological criticalities.
