“There’s still a long way to go to get to one full inclusion of womenwe have seen that many things have improved but if we look, for example, at female entrepreneurship, in the large sectors of the future the presence of women is still very low”. This was stated on the sidelines of the G7 Ministerial on Equal Opportunities underway in Matera Emma Marcegaglia, Chair of B7 Italy, one of the Engagement Groups representing the private sector and the industrial confederations that belong to the countries involved. During the event it emerged that focusing on diversity and inclusion is the best way to generate profits.
“In sectors such as engineering and those related to AI, the presence of women is still very low – explained Marcegaglia – to this we add the fact that there are still many women who do not participate in working life. What we are asking is for there to be a cultural change starting from families, because sometimes there are stereotypes, for example that girls are not good at studying mathematics or that they do not have leadership skills. This is not true. Secondly, we need policies that help women, especially in combining work and private life. For example, they can help with parental leave or have nursery schools available that work at a good price.”
“We also need – he adds – a commitment from companies, which must provide part-time work and other forms of support. We also need a different organization that also allows women to become entrepreneurs. Above all, we need easier access to education in scientific subjects, which are those that may be most important for the future. If there is no change for women, the demographic risk in Italy will become increasingly higher.”
