Starting today (and until tomorrow) the first day of 5th International Congress ‘Healthy Lifespan – Positive nutrition, antiinflammation diet, physical activity and sport’organized by the Paolo Sorbini Foundation and promoted by Enervit and Technogym, at Palazzo Mezzanotte in Milan. During the 2 days of work and debates, internationally renowned experts will discuss the main aspects related to improvement of the quality of life and to promotion of healthy longevity.
According to what emerged from the Istat data reported in the 2023 Annual Report – recalls a note – at the end of 2022 the Italian population over 65 years old reached 14 million 177 thousand individuals, representing 24.1% of the total population, those over 80 years old reached 4 million and 529 thousand, equal to 7.7% of the population, while those over centenarians have reached their all-time high, approaching 22 thousand units. Furthermore, demographic forecasts indicate a significant increase in the number of “very old people” by 2041, with the over 80 population growing by 35.2% compared to 2021. A longer life, however, does not translate into a healthy and quality. Many people are living longer, but are facing declining health. Scientific research has long questioned this topic and has worked on the study of the factors responsible for aging and the development of inflammatory, metabolic and neurodegenerative pathologies, to find solutions aimed at increasing the years of healthy life.
“Although the average life expectancy in Italy today is around 84 years, healthy life expectancy does not reach 60 years – says Giovanni Scapagnini, full professor of Clinical Nutrition at the University of Molise and vice-president of the Italian Society by Nutraceutica (Sinut) – This condition means that each of us must expect to live a quarter of our lives in a state of illness. An absolutely unacceptable situation both from a personal point of view and from that of the sustainability of public spending. science has shown us that the balance can be shifted towards healthy aging. The pillars that allow us to stay young that we can work on effectively are variables, such as nutrition, physical activity and stress management. “.
There promotion of a healthy lifestylewhich includes a correct nutrition and one regular physical activity, it is therefore essential for preventing a number of chronic metabolic disorders and mental health disorders.
A recent study by Harvard University, published in ‘Circulation’ – we read in the note – analyzed the data of over 120 thousand people, finding that a correct lifestyle can increase healthy life expectancy by 14 years for women women and 12 years for men, with an 82% reduced risk of mortality from cardiovascular diseases and 65% from cancer. This event represents the opportunity to work on the changes underway in order to best ensure assistance and advice at a high scientific level. It is an unmissable event for all health specialists eager for up-to-date and rigorous information.
