The Last of Us Part II is obviously among the games that will get an upgrade with the arrival of PS5 Pro to be able to exploit, at least partially, the new possibilities offered by the Sony console coming out in November, and this new version was analyzed by Digital Foundry in the new video below.
Essentially, the updated PS5 Pro version replicates the old performance mode of the standard PS5, at least when it comes to cold data: resolution and frame rate taken as targets they are in fact the same, even in this case we are faced with a native resolution of 1440p with upscale to 4K and 60 frames per second.
The thing that changes the most, in this new version for PS5 Pro, is the application of PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR)or the hardware upscaling system developed by Sony, which apparently is capable of making quite the difference.
This time it’s the PSSR that’s “magical”
The comparison therefore focuses between the original image reconstruction system and the PSSR, which demonstrates a remarkable increase in the level of detail on PS5 Pro compared to the standard version of the console.
The difference isn’t exactly huge, but it’s clear that PSSR is probably one of the greatest strengths of the new console.
In the face of greater details, which are found above all in the distance or in the vegetation of the scenarios, the new reconstruction system presents some problem of “breakage” of the image, which according to Digital Foundry could be associated with a certain immaturity of the system, perhaps resolving with subsequent software updates.
It is in fact something similar to what happened with the first versions of NVIDIA DLSS, so these are probably problems that will be resolved later. Meanwhile, we’ve also seen that Diablo 4 will have PS5 Pro support in the list of “Enhanced” games that have emerged so far.
