Home weekend uphill
The home weekend certainly didn’t start off on the right foot for La Yamaha. In fact, on the Motegi track, the Iwata bike struggled a lot on the first day of testing, showing clear steps backwards compared to what we saw in the last month of racing, from the two weekends in Misano to the first stage of the Asian tour, in Indonesia.
Adhesion problems
“Motegi is a particular track, which doesn’t work in our favor – confirmed the team director Maio Meregalli after the conclusion of the pre-qualifications – Lack of grip also seems to be a big problem. This prevents Fabio and Álex from pushing hard, because it affects braking, corner entry and lean angle. It’s disappointing after being in the top-10 of the tests at Misano and Mandalika, but somehow, knowing the characteristics of this circuit, we expected this GP to be difficult. That said, we will continue to look for improvements throughout the weekend. We will carefully analyze the data to find a solution to try tomorrow“.
Meregalli’s version was confirmed by Fabio Quartararowhich did not go beyond 14th time in Practice this morning: “We struggled today – the French centaur remarked bluntly – it seems that the track affects the performance of our bike. If the grip of the asphalt is good, we are not in bad shape, but if the track has little grip, we are far from the top times. We lack rear grip and this makes things difficult“, he concluded.
