Foreign policy|The government is not participating in the equality alliance for the reconstruction of Ukraine.
The main opposition party Sdp submits a motion of no confidence in the government. The reason is that Finland decided to stay out of the alliance, which aims to promote the rights of not only women but also sexual and gender minorities in the reconstruction work of Ukraine.
“This was a huge disappointment. Finland would have had every reason to join this equality alliance. It seems that the coalition does not have enough strength to ensure that equality and support for Ukraine are maintained in Finland’s foreign policy”, Sdp chairman Antti Lindtman said in parliament on Friday.
It is the Minister of Foreign Trade and Development Ville Tavion decision made by (ps). The government discussed the issue on Friday in the ministerial committee for foreign and security policy, or tp-utva. Prime minister Petteri Orpo (kok) said after the meeting that the government is not going to overturn Tavio’s decision.
Instead, the government has decided that the second part of the reconstruction plan for Ukraine, which is currently being prepared, will include a section promoting equality and equality. It is prepared jointly by the Minister of Social Security Sanni Grahn-Laasonen (cook) and Tavio.
According to Lindtman, the Sdp would have hoped that the government would have reversed its decision.
“Now that this is not happening, we will activate a vote of no confidence in Minister Tavio’s actions. We cannot accept that the rest of the government acknowledges this, and that is why we submit a motion of no confidence in the entire government’s activities.”
Demareita did not assure that the government intends to include the aspect of equality and equality in the second part of the reconstruction plan.
“It was not clear from the Prime Minister’s comments why Finland could not join the equality coalition intended to support Ukraine.”
By the board there have also been disagreements about Palestine’s international status. Foreign minister Elina Valtonen (kok) has said that Finland will at some point recognize the state of Palestine. Leader of the parliamentary group of Basic Finns Jani Mäkelä has again said that Perusfinlois is against the recognition of Palestine.
The Sdp’s line is that Finland should have “a reason to act on the matter” during this fall, Lindtman said. According to Lindtman, Finland should also support the line that the settlements established by Israel are illegal.
“But today, perhaps the most important question is whether Finland will join the equality coalition supporting Ukraine. Defending the rights of girls, women and minorities and supporting Ukraine is very important.”
Lindtman said that he thinks it’s a bad thing that the foreign policy line has to be discussed about the rules of the game.
“It’s not good that such a tora has been seen. It is an exceptional situation that the actions of the Finnish foreign minister at the UN are being questioned from within the government.”
There has been criticism from the ranks of fundamental Finns and Christian Democrats that Finland voted at the UN last week in favor of declaring Israeli settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories illegal.
Lindtman questions Prime Minister Orpo’s leadership.
“Perhaps everyone can see now, based on today’s decisions, who has the pace in the government.”
