The Ministry of Internal Affairs detained in St. Petersburg the organizers of a business involving fictitious marriages of migrants
In St. Petersburg, employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the FSB detained three immigrants from neighboring countries who organized a criminal business of concluding fictitious marriages of convenience to legalize migrants. This was reported by the official representative of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs Irina Volk in her Telegram-channel.
According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, starting in 2020, foreigners searched among their compatriots for those wishing to obtain Russian citizenship and offered them to enter into fictitious marriages for a fee. The cost of marriage scammers was about 200 thousand rubles. Seven residents of St. Petersburg agreed to formally marry a foreigner, receiving from 30 to 100 thousand rubles. Over the five years of activity, they managed to legalize several dozen people in Russia in this way.
In addition to the three organizers of the criminal business, the police detained four residents of St. Petersburg who agreed to help them. During the search, 233 stamps of various government agencies, computers, printers, and forms of official documents were seized from the office.
A criminal case has been initiated under Article 322.1 (“Organization of illegal migration”) of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.
Earlier it was reported that the organization of illegal migration was proposed to be made a particularly serious crime.
