Apple continues to improve accessibility in its services, demonstrating an ongoing commitment to making digital content accessible to everyone. With the Apple Podcasts update, the platform now supports multilingual transcriptions for eight new languages, including Italian, making podcasts easier to navigate and more accessible than ever. This update not only makes life easier for regular listeners, but it represents a big step forward for people with hearing disabilities and for those who want to use podcasts as a tool to learn new languages or find specific information.
Automatic transcriptions: a revolution in accessibility
Automatic transcriptions on Apple Podcasts not only improve accessibility for people with hearing disabilities, but also offer greater ease of use for anyone who wants to quickly navigate through an episode’s content. Users can now access the transcript of an episode from the bottom left corner of the Now Playing screen and follow the lyrics as the episode plays, with each word highlighted in real time.
This feature allows users to tap on any word or phrase to play the episode from that specific point, making it easier to navigate and interact with audio content. Users can also select and copy up to 200 words from the transcript and share them along with a link to the episode in Apple Podcasts. One of the most significant innovations is the ability of transcripts to automatically recognize and transcribe multiple languages spoken within an episode. This means that if a podcast switches from Italian to English or other supported languages, Apple Podcasts will be able to accurately transcribe all languagesoffering a seamless listening and reading experience.
