Seoul, South Korea.- North Korean leader Kim Jong Un stated that the country would not hesitate to use all available offensive forces, including nuclear weapons, if the enemy tried to use force to usurp its sovereignty, the state agency reported on Friday. KCNA News.
Kim criticized South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol for threatening to take down the North Korean regime at a Military Day event on Tuesday, saying the comment showed which side was destroying regional security and peace.
“He (Kim) stated that if the enemy, seized by extreme folly and recklessness, attempted to use armed forces to usurp the sovereignty of the DPRK (Democratic People’s Republic of Korea)… the DPRK would unhesitatingly use all the offensive forces it possesses including nuclear weapons,” the news agency said. KCNA added that Kim made the comments at a training base for army special operations units on Wednesday.
North Korea has been developing a nuclear weapons program for decades and is believed to have enough fissile material to build dozens of such weapons. It has carried out six underground nuclear detonation tests.
On Tuesday, South Korea marked its annual Armed Forces Day with a military parade that featured a ballistic missile capable of carrying a high-powered nuclear warhead and also featured a U.S. bomber flyby. In a speech, Yoon warned Pyongyang against using nuclear weapons, saying that would be met with “a resolute and overwhelming response from our military and the American alliance.” “That day will be the end of the North Korean regime,” Yoon said. Kim said that “the enemies’ threatening rhetoric, action, trick and attempt did not challenge the DPRK’s powerful military force and will not take away our nuclear weapons forever,” KCNA reported.
