The summary is made by artificial intelligence and checked by a human.
In Laajasalo, cars drive repeatedly on the footpath on the Governor’s Path.
Residents of the area report dangerous situations every day, especially on the Governor’s Path.
Motorists get nervous about the constant traffic arrangements and correct the light traffic route.
The situation worries the residents, as there is a school and a service center for the elderly nearby.
Helsinki There is a place in Laajasalo where cars drive repeatedly on the footpath. The street was closed to car traffic more than a year ago, but some motorists do not follow the ban.
Dangerous situations occur on the Governor’s Path every day, the residents of the area say.
One of the situations happened on Wednesday. A man from Laajalo was hit by a car while walking on a light traffic lane south from the shopping center Saari.
“Suddenly I heard the sound of a car behind me. I was startled, but I managed to step aside in time,” the man says about the incident.
He does not want to appear in the story by his name, because he fears that coming out will harm his profession.
Car didn’t stop in the situation or show any attention to the pedestrian, the man says. According to the man, the light traffic lane is clearly marked and you can’t get lost on it by accident.
Living next to the place Ulla Mannila agrees.
“Cars drive onto the footpath on purpose. The reason is nervousness about the constantly changing traffic arrangements in the area,” says Mannila.
Mannila walks there often and has witnessed driving on the light traffic route many times.
“I don’t agree to dodge cars, but let them reverse out of the place,” says Mannila.
Particular the road was already closed to cars at the beginning of 2023. Tienpätkä is located between Reposalmenti and Sarvastonkaari. At the same time, the name of the road was changed from Kuveröörintie to Kuvernöörinpolu.
Next to the road runs a light traffic lane with its own lanes for bicycles and pedestrians. The stretch of road is about one hundred meters long.
The old highway running next to it is closed by fences from the shopping center Saari side, but there are no roadblocks at the southern end.
Situation causes concern among the residents of the area, as there is a school and a care home for the elderly next to the place.
The situation has lasted for almost two years now, and there is no end in sight.
In Laajasalo, an express tram road, gas station and apartment buildings are being built near the shopping center Saari. The express tram will start running on Laajasalontie, which will become a park street, in 2027.
Due to the construction work, the traffic arrangements in the area are constantly being changed, which causes traffic jams.
The residents of the area are fed up with this and drive their cars recklessly from anywhere at any time, says Mannila.
Mannila is afraid that a serious accident will happen soon on the Governor’s Path.
According to the man, there is no reason to use the road for straightening, because there are detours for motorists.
“It’s about indifference and stupidity,” the man uploads.
