Israel confirmed this Thursday (3) the death of an army captain during fighting against the terrorist group Hezbollah in southern Lebanon. The officer was identified as 21-year-old Ben Zion Falach, who served with the 202nd Parachute Brigade Battalion, based in Nitzanei Oz.
Falach’s death marks the ninth fatality among the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) since the start of ground operations in Lebanon, where Israeli troops have focused on attacking Hezbollah positions and reducing its offensive capabilities.
Falach was killed during combat this Wednesday (2), the same day that eight other Israeli soldiers were killed while entering Lebanese territory to fight the Lebanese terrorist group.
Despite the losses, the IDF reported important progress in operations against Hezbollah. This Thursday, the Army launched an air strike aimed at the terrorist group’s intelligence headquarters in Beirut. The location was used to collect information about IDF activities. Additionally, a second offensive in the capital targeted a building in the city center where Hezbollah fighters were also believed to be operating.
The intensity of bombing by the IDF has increased in the last 24 hours, especially in the southern and eastern regions of Lebanon, close to the border. The Golani Brigade, one of the IDF’s combat units, announced that, due to limited ground incursions, it was able to neutralize several high-ranking Hezbollah commanders and confiscate weapons that could be used in attacks against Israel.
