Atlético Nacional rejected the sanction imposed by the Dimayor Disciplinary Committee for the excesses that occurred between this team and Junior de Barranquilla, on September 26, which was suspended in the 56th minute.
According to the criteria of
The Antioquia club was the one that received the most severe punishments for what happened: the Committee declared the match lost 0-3, forced it to play six games behind closed doors and imposed two fines totaling 40.3 million pesos. .
The president of Atlético Nacional, Sebastián Arango, read a statement in which he stressed that the club complied with all the security measures that corresponded to it, in accordance with what was agreed upon by the Local Commission for Safety, Comfort and Coexistence in Football.
“The commission meets before the games to define the necessary conditions for holding the event and decisions are made by majority. Nacional has only one vote out of seven on the commission,” Arango said in his statement.
The leader stressed that the club had 470 logistics units to control the situation, for a match attended by 26,567 spectators. “Nacional, in final matches, has had 500 people,” he added.
Furthermore, Arango insisted that Atlético Nacional as a club is not authorized to exclusively care for a sports venue and that it cannot exercise public order control functions.
Nacional will use all the resources for reconsideration and appeal to try to reverse the sanction and announced that, if necessary, it will reach the Court of Arbitration for Sports (TAS, for its acronym in English).
“The events occurred due to irrational behavior by Junior fans and the trigger was the theft of a cloth. The videos recorded and published on social networks reaffirm that Junior fans started the act and there was a non-rational response on the part of the Junior fans. National,” he explained.
The president of Nacional rejected the sanctions imposed by the Disciplinary Committee
Arango said that they will seek not only to reduce the sanction, but also to keep the points for Nacional. “We express our rejection of the sanctions imposed, since we consider them inappropriate. We managed to detect the specific place where the actions were generated. A disastrous precedent is given by giving as the winner the team whose fans generated the incidents,” he explained.
“It is a risky precedent. It is opening the doors for the enemies of football to try to get points violently in the stands and not on the field. The violent cannot succeed,” he said.
Arango recalled the decisions made by the Disciplinary Committee in 2022, when Deportivo Cali fans caused disturbances and invaded the field in Tuluá, and in 2023, when something similar happened with Junior fans in a game against La Equidad.
“It is essential to ask why this time the limits of sound logic are not overflowed and the bars are invited to commit excesses to benefit the club they follow,” the manager insisted.
Arango declared that, in the event that Nacional cannot play in its stadium with an audience, a way will be found to return the money to the people who bought the season ticket for this semester.
