La Porta will lead the Brazilian Olympic Committee from 2025 to 2028; he surpassed Paulo Wanderley Teixeira
The COB (Brazilian Olympic Committee) elected this Thursday (October 3, 2024) Marco Antônio La Porta as the new president for the four-year period 2025-2028. La porta He beat Paulo Wanderley Teixeira, current president, in a fierce dispute with 30 votes against 25 for his opponent.
The election had the participation of 55 voters, including presidents of sports confederations and representatives of the COB Athletes’ Commission and the International Olympic Committee (IOC). The new president will have medalist Yane Marques as vice-president.
The assembly also elected the members of the COB Board of Directors. Read the list:

- Radames Lattari Filho (volleyball);
- Rafael Girotto (canoeing);
- Jodson Gomes Edington Junior (sports shooting);
- Karl Anders Ivar Pettersson (snow sports);
- Flavio Cabral Neves (wrestling);
- Flavio Padaratz (surfing); and
- Daniela Rodriguez de Castro (independent member).
“We are very satisfied, especially with the process. It was a democratic process. I wanted to take advantage and congratulate President Paulo Wanderley. It was a very peaceful, very serene, very democratic process. And I think the Assembly really chose what it thought was best for the Olympic Committee at that moment”declared Marco La Porta after the victory.
La Porta’s campaign stood out for its proposals for modernizing management and improving sporting results.
“We ran a very purposeful campaign, a more modern management proposal, an improvement in sporting results. And we understand that the Assembly understood this project. It was tight, but it was fair, because President Paulo Wanderley’s management was also very good. And the Assembly recognized this with this close vote”, stated the new president.
With the mission of preparing Team Brazil for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics, La Porta faces the challenge of managing an annual budget of more than R$250 million. This challenge includes the efficient management of resources and the implementation of strategies to improve the performance of Brazilian athletes on the international stage.
