France|The owl was searched for more than three decades.
Over the thirty-year treasure hunt came to an end when the golden owl was found. The issue was reported by, among others, the British Broadcasting Corporation BBC on Thursday.
The owl statue was buried in a secret place in France in 1993, reports AFP news agency. A copy of the original owl statue, made by an artist, ended up in the grave Michel Becker.
“We confirm that the duplicate of the golden owl was unearthed yesterday [keskiviikkona] in the evening,” Becker said on a discussion platform on the subject, according to the BBC.
According to the rules, the treasure hunter must prove that he has found the owl specifically with the help of clues and not by accident, says the BBC. According to the BBC, there is no information about the owl’s finder.
The one who finds the buried owl gets the original golden owl. In the 90s, its value was estimated at one million French francs. In euros, the value of the owl is 150,000.
The owl tens of thousands of people have participated in the search over the years. Treasure hunters have received 11 clues from their creator, a writer From Régis Hauser.
Hauser died in 2009, after which Becker has taken care of owl hunting. Becker initially had no information about the owl’s whereabouts, but the Hauser family did. Becker found out the whereabouts of the statue and made sure that the owl is still there, says the BBC.
Over the years, Becker has published additional clues for searchers, which has made new generations more interested in the search for treasure.
