Future EU Defense Commissioner Kubilius calls for preparations for confrontation with Russia
The future European Commissioner for Defense, former Prime Minister of Lithuania Andrius Kubilius, called on the European Union (EU) to prepare for a possible confrontation with Russia. His words leads Bloomberg agency.
Kubilius believes a similar scenario is possible in six to eight years. He also stated the need to increase military production and replenish arms stocks.
The future European Commissioner proposed creating mandatory reserves of ammunition for the European Union. This idea was not previously supported by former NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, who resigned on October 1.
At the end of September, Polish MEP Miroslava Nikel asked the European Commission whether there were plans to create an EU army in addition to NATO. The parliamentarian said that the conflict in Ukraine prompted member states of the bloc to “think about defense and reconsider existing plans.”
