On Thursday, the Russian Ministry of Defense confirmed reports that its forces had taken control of the town of Volidar in eastern Ukraine.
The ministry attributed the credit for achieving this progress to what it described as decisive actions taken by units in the army’s Eastern Command.
Bloggers, following developments in the Ukrainian crisis, and Russian media announced, yesterday, Wednesday, that Russian forces had taken complete control of the town of Volidar in eastern Ukraine.
Russian channels on the Telegram application published a video clip of soldiers waving the Russian flag over buildings.
The Moskovsky Komsomolets newspaper reported that Voledar fell into Russia’s control after the last group of Ukrainian forces belonging to a military unit left on Tuesday.
A Ukrainian official in the region said on Tuesday that Russian forces had arrived in the center of Volidar, a town known for coal mining located in a strategically elevated area.
Since August, Russian forces have advanced in eastern Ukraine at their fastest pace in two years, despite the Ukrainian incursion into Russia’s Kursk.
