Bloober Team – author of Layers of Fear, The Medium and now the remake of Silent Hill 2 – is learning a lot from his collaboration with Konami. In addition to not wanting to stop working with the Japanese publisher, Bloober Team he’s also finding a new path for his horror films.
For example, he wants to do less reliance on jump scares and decided to continue with the use of the third person.
Bloober Team’s words on Silent Hill 2 and the future of the company
“Back when we were working on the first Layers Of Fear, we focused a lot more on jump scares and things that suddenly appeared,” said producer Maciej Głomb. “And I think with all the subsequent games and especially now, with Silent Hill 2, we’ve gone much more in the direction of creating this atmosphere of tension – again, [questo senso di] unknown, you’re not sure what will happen next. If you can convey this feeling, there is no need to ‘make something happen’ because the players are already living this experience.”
“[Il remake di Silent Hill 2] it is also the first game where we created a third-person camera and, going forward, I think this is also the direction we want to continue to explore,” Głomb continued. “Because we think it actually helps you experience the story, understand the emotions and motivations of the characters, and make the overall experience very more personal. Because by seeing the character, you identify with him, in my opinion, much more than, for example, when you play in first person.”
The remake’s creative director, Mateusz Lenart, also said that Bloober tries to treat each project as a foundation for the next. “If you follow our evolution over time, you can see that every single project was actually a preparation for making that kind of game again,” he said. “We add elements very slowly to grow as a company, to gain confidence, to gain experience.”
“And just as we were making The Medium, we made this proposal: we felt we had the technology, the experience and the knowledge necessary to tackle Silent Hill, an iconic title. For us it was the icing on the cake, but we still want to progress, we learned so much about the technology, about the combat systems, so many things that we can bring into new titles.”
Furthermore, Piotr Babieno, CEO of Bloober Team, recently hinted to Bankier.pl that “we can expect that [Silent Hill 2] is not the end of the adventure with Konami“.
We remind you that there is already a review of Silent Hill 2 online.
