Extraordinary meeting
The usual meeting took place yesterday, Wednesday 2 October F1 Commissionin the presence of all the team principals of the 10 Circus teams, F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali and Nikolas Tombazis representing the FIA. This was the fourth meeting of 2024. The last one took place on 23 July but this further meeting was necessary to decide some important points of the regulations for the 2026 seasonthat of the next technical revolution in F1. Furthermore, it was necessary to decide on the possibility of having the ‘rookie race’ take place in the post-season tests in Abu Dhabi or not: an option which, for the moment, it was discarded.
Towards 2026
The official report of the discussion, which took place in Faenza at the headquarters of the Racing Bulls team, was made known – at least in part – by the FIA. All the specific details will be presented at the World Motor Sport Council meeting scheduled for Thursday 17 October. However, some points were mentioned, first of all that of the 2026 tests: the pre-season testing program will include nine days of testingdivided into three sessions of three days each. The objective is to allow teams and engineers to have the time necessary to adapt to the new regulations.
A will then be scheduled adjustment of the financial regulationwhich in 2026 “it will evolve” compared to the current regulatory framework. The objectives of the 2026 regulation are those of “provide a competitive balance between sporting fairness and financial sustainability“.
Furthermore, the document states, “in the latest version of Technical Regulations 2026 a series of have been inserted changes in performance, aerodynamics and safety. This is an increase in the aerodynamic performance expected of the cars, following extensive collaboration between the teams and the FIA in recent months.”. On this last aspect above all, it will be interesting to read the further details that will emerge from the World Motorsport Council in mid-month.
