Orientalist Tarasov: Hezbollah remained combat-ready after the liquidation of its leadership
The radical Shiite group Hezbollah remained combat-ready after the destruction of its leadership, says political scientist and expert on the problems of the Middle East and the Caucasus Stanislav Tarasov. He shared his assessment in a conversation with Lenta.ru.
“After the destruction of Hezbollah’s leadership in Beirut, Israeli and Western experts wrote that the movement was weakened, that it had lost its combat capability, etc., but yesterday’s military clashes showed that Hezbollah is combat-ready and, in general, is winning ground battles. This means that the Israeli army cannot walk like in Gaza. Of course, the Israeli army is stronger, they can occupy Lebanon again, but they are suffering heavy losses. Are they ready for these losses? – said the orientalist.
The Secretary General of the Lebanese Shiite movement Hezbollah, Hassan Nasrallah, was killed during an Israeli strike on Beirut on September 28. He has led the movement since 1992. The airstrike also killed Nasrallah’s daughter Zainab, who had openly demonstrated her commitment to the movement and its goals.
It was also reported that the commander of the southern front of the group, Ali Karki, and other commanders of the movement were killed.
