El Paso.- An 85-year-old El Paso man recently died after crashing into another vehicle while driving drunk in August in northeast El Paso, according to the El Paso Police Department (EPPD).
Police said Richard Carlton Wilson, 85, was traveling west in the 5200 block of Woodrow Bean in a Nissan Sentra shortly after 9 p.m. on Saturday, August 17.
Wilson failed to control the speed of his vehicle and crashed into the rear of a Dodge Durango, which was occupied by a 36-year-old man, a 29-year-old woman and two children, according to police. The Dodge Durango was stopped at a westbound red light at the intersection of Woodrow Bean and Rushing.
Police said the 36-year-old man and 29-year-old woman suffered minor injuries and the children were unharmed. However, Wilson suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to a local hospital.
Wilson was initially in stable condition, but died from his injuries on Friday, September 27.
According to police, Wilson’s lack of speed control and alcohol consumption were contributing factors in the crash.
This is the 48th traffic fatality this year, compared to 55 at the same time last year.
