Reader’s opinion|School education plays a key role in passing on the veteran tradition.
Toivo Loikkanen (HS 17.9.) and Pekka Holopainen (HS 24.9.) in their opinion pieces, they creditably dealt with issues related to the preservation of the veteran tradition. In March 2023, the working group set up by the Government Chancellery in spring 2022 made a proposal on the future organization of veterans’ traditional work. The working group proposed that the Ministry of Education and Culture implement the Veteran Tradition 2025 project in primary schools from the 7th to the 9th. in classes.
In terms of passing on the veteran tradition, it would now be important for that project to be seen in the daily life of as many schools as possible. Schools implement the curriculum in practice in different ways, emphasizing different issues. Veterans and our country’s recent history should now be highlighted in all schools. History teachers and principals are now in a key position in terms of passing on the veteran tradition and are often the guardians.
