Spiegel: Germany plans to tighten rules for receiving unemployment benefits
The German government plans to make a decision to tighten the rules for receiving unemployment benefits. About this reports Spiegel.
It is noted that violators, including Ukrainian refugees, face a reduction in payments if they avoid employment. Subject to approval by parliament, the German government’s decision will take effect on January 1, 2025.
According to the publication, in case of refusal of employment without a good reason, the benefit will be reduced by 30 percent in the next three months. In addition, relief on housing and utility costs is expected to decrease. The decision of the German authorities will also affect those who earn money without official employment.
Earlier, Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski said that EU countries should stop paying benefits to refugees from Ukraine, because such payments create obstacles to their return to the country.
