Ryujinx, the Switch emulator, comes to an end thanks to Nintendo. Likewise, it announces a copyright block against a YouTube channel that reviews retro portable console emulators.
Ryujinx has already been removed from GitHub and one of its developers, known under the name gdkchan, was contacted by Nintendo and “offered an agreement to stop working on the project, delete the organization and all related assets it controls.”
In addition to Ryujinx, Nintendo is going for a YouTube channel
On the other hand, the creator of the YouTube channel, Retro Game Corps, which is dedicated to analyzing modern portable consoles with emulated titles, received a copyright notice from Nintendo.
“My Wii U video is taken down and I received another copyright attack, even though this demo video was no different from all the demos and technical analyzes I have previously done on this channel. I am still considering a countersuit under fair use, since the video was for educational use, transformative in nature, and had no effect [sic] on the market – it was a demo of a console that is no longer on sale (even the Wii U eShop is closed, so the company itself has no means of earning income from Wii U sales)”.
The YouTuber claims that he will no longer show any Nintendo games on screen, and will blur out any Nintendo-related content.
Without a doubt, with the closure of Ryujinx, Nintendo continues to win the battles against emulators. Let’s remember that the last one did it against Yuzu. The emulator’s developer, Tropic Haze, reached a settlement last March and paid $2.4 million.
