A season to rewrite
In recent months the judicial dispute engaged by Felipe Massa to get the 2008 Singapore GP erased from Formula 1 history books – and at the same time obtaining that title ‘by default’ which eluded him on the track by a single point to Lewis Hamilton’s advantage – was no longer the center of attention. The commitment that the Brazilian former Ferrari is putting into this cause, however, has never failed and continues to this day, in search of a verdict that could potentially overturn the history of the Circus and create a precedent of absolute importance throughout the world of motorsport.
In an interview given to colleagues on the site RacingNews365 Massa has returned to face the delicate issue of the legal proceedings in which he is the protagonist: the Brazilian law firm representing Massa, Vieira Rezende Advogados, has in fact filed the case at the High Court of London asking for a declaration that “the FIA breached its regulations by not promptly investigating Nelson Piquet Junior’s accident at the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix and that, had he acted correctly, Mr Massa would have won that year’s drivers’ championship.”.
Felipe’s battle
Massa, speaking about the matter, confirmed that the case has been ongoing for “four, five mWell yes. I hope that the right thing is done, for justice, for something that is unrelated to sport and which has damaged me in a very serious way. This is what we are fighting for and what I believe is right, especially after 16 years and after hearing things I never would have thought. When we heard Bernie Ecclestone’s comment last year, we started to put things together and fight, to analyze things in a professional and legal way because what happened was not part of sport.”.
The Brazilian is paying a high price for his search for justice, literally: “I never thought I would be involved in something like this in my life – he explained – It’s not easy at all and it’s also very expensive. It takes a lot of money, so I really hope things end soon. But we have been waiting a long time for justice – he concluded – we must hope that the truth comes out and that justice is done”.
