People searched for him for days, but now there is sad certainty: the pensioner who disappeared on Lake Garda in Italy has been found dead.
Riva del Garda – The 77-year-old man from Italy was on Monte Baldo – the highest mountain range on Lake Garda – on Monday (September 30th). However, when the pensioner did not return in the afternoon, family members reported him missing.

A huge search operation then began. Alpinists, drones and dog teams supported the rescue workers, the Italian news agency reported Ansa. A villager apparently saw the man that day on hiking trail 650 on the outskirts of the village of Brentonico. A helicopter also searched for the 77-year-old on Tuesday (October 1st), but had to turn back due to poor visibility.
The search was interrupted overnight and continued on Wednesday morning (October 2nd). At around 9:45 a.m. the shocking realization followed: the man was dead. The emergency services only discovered the lifeless body of the missing man. The body lay on a steep slope below a hiking trail at about 1,400 meters.

After the doctor declared the man dead, the body could be brought to the valley. The exact cause of death has not yet been conclusively determined. How Ansa reported further, an initial reconstruction suggests that the pensioner fell.
