Mercedes flops in Singapore
After more than a week, the controversy over the Singapore GP strategy is finally history. Lewis Hamilton in fact, he wanted to definitively end the dispute with Mercedes over the wrong race tactics in the last grand prix. The only one of the top riders to start on tyres Softthe English champion was then forced to make his pit stop early and lost ground and positions. With a very disappointing result: starting third, in the end Hamilton only crossed the finish line sixth, with a very worn Pirelli Hard set.
A decision that did not please Sir Lewis, who in fact, during a meeting to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the founding of the sponsor Petronas, said he to have opposed to the choice of the wall but that he was not listened to. An issue that was finally closed only the following weekend, with two Instagram stories published by the seven-time world champion to put the controversy to rest.
Hamilton’s post
“I’m concentrating – wrote Hamilton – about training for the next race. I know there was some chatter about the strategy in the last Singapore GP, which didn’t work. When things like this happen, it’s normal to be frustrated, and it’s easy to let that frustration speak. We knew that starting on the soft tires would be a risky move, but it could give us an advantage at the start. In the end I took the advice, but we also miscalculated what others would do. But don’t be under any illusions, things are fine with the team. As with all successful partnerships, there are ups and downs but we are never afraid of problematic conversations. Which explains how we managed to win so much together. We support each other until the end. It’s all love, see you in Austin”.
