United States President Joe Biden said on Tuesday (1st) that there is an “active dialogue” with Israel on how to respond to Iran’s missile attack and stated that the consequences of the escalation towards Tehran “have not yet been seen” .
Speaking to journalists at the White House, Biden said he plans to speak with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, although he did not say when, and explained that his team has been in “constant” contact with their Israeli counterparts.
“I didn’t talk to him [Netanyahu]. We spoke to all of his people and I’m going to speak to him,” declared Biden, who spent most of the day in the White House “crisis room” monitoring the situation.
Asked by a journalist what the consequences should be for Iran for the almost 200 missiles it launched against Israel, Biden declared: “This [as consequências] remains to be seen.”
In the opinion of the American president, Israel’s resistance to the new Iranian attack was “proof” of the country’s military capacity and the “intensive planning” that existed between the two governments.
“Under my leadership, the U.S. military has actively supported the defense of Israel, and we are still evaluating the impact. But based on what we know now, the attack appears to have been defeated and appears to have been ineffective,” he added.
The US helped shoot down some of the missiles Iran fired at Israel, including using its destroyers USS Bulkeley and USS Cole in the eastern Mediterranean Sea.
“Let there be no doubt that the US is totally, totally, totally supporting Israel,” concluded Biden, vehemently.
Tuesday’s offensive came amid heightened tension in the region after the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) carried out what they described as limited and localized ground attacks against Hezbollah terrorist targets and infrastructure in southern Lebanon.
