Orientalist Chuprygin: Israel’s response to Iran’s strike is unlikely to be strong
Israel’s response to Iran’s attack on the state is unlikely to be so strong as to provoke an escalation at the level of a large regional war, says Andrey Chuprygin, senior lecturer at the HSE School of Oriental Studies. In conversation with RIA Novosti the expert explained that neither side is interested in large-scale hostilities.
The orientalist pointed out that before the attack, Iran announced not only the plan to strike, but also the approximate time. In his opinion, this was aimed at giving Israel time to prepare. Meanwhile, Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) spokesman Daniel Hagari said that the Iranian attack would have consequences, but did not disclose the details of the response.
“From here we conclude that most likely, perhaps Israel will touch something Iranian slightly, most likely it will be limited to clearing out the south of Lebanon,” the expert reasoned.
Earlier, the Chief of the General Staff of the Israeli Armed Forces, Herzi Halevi, said that Israel would demonstrate “amazing offensive capabilities” when responding to Iran’s attack. He did not specify when exactly this would happen.
